Krogen Cruisers Rendezvous 2024!

The Krogen Cruisers Chesapeake Rendezvous took place Tuesday, October 8 through Saturday, October 12, 2024 in Solomons, Maryland.  The Rendezvous is a gathering of Krogen owners, present, past and future, and is the best way to connect with boaters who share the same interest in the cruising lifestyle.

One of the highlights of the Rendezvous is having a chance to hear from and interact with knowledgable speakers, who have years of experience and useful insights to share about their respective field. We welcome the following speakers to be with us who will give presentations on these topics:

  • Bob Arrington: "Safety for Cruising Couples" - This popular program originally developed by the Cruising Club of America, helps couples work better together during challenging situations. You will learn confidence building skills, specifically geared towards how to prepare for onboard emergencies. The course will cover the most important skills you would need if you had to over command of the boat. This kind of training is like insurance for emergencies - you hope you won't need it, but you will be glad you have it. The course covers a range of essential boating safety practices, with particular emphasis on completing a safe voyage as a couple.

  • Eric Bescoby: “The Big U” - The Big U refers to the u-shaped route that takes cruisers from Alaska to Maine (and vice-versa). It’s not crossing an ocean exactly, but it is an 8,000 nm journey that leads vessels through two oceans and the Panama Canal. Over 7 years Eric cruised on his Nordhavn 40 from Vancouver Island to Skagway, Alaska and back, then down the Pacific Coast to join the CUBAR in 2017. He spent a year cruising the Sea of Cortez and coastal Mexico, then started the journey to the Panama Canal, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Florida and north to Maine to complete “The Big U”.  By the time he returned to The Sea of Cortez he traveled 25,000nm. In this program he’ll cover: the Decision, the Numbers, the Route and stops, Crew, Favorites and otherwise, Big adventures, Challenges and the aftermath. Eric is a California Licensed Yacht Salesperson, a member of the California Yacht Brokers Association and the Offshore Cruising Club

  • Steve Gershman: “Cold Water Awareness and Survival Techniques” - This presentation was developed as a result of three professional experienced watermen losing their lives in Southern Maryland in 2021, within one month of each other.  The presentation will address the causation leading up to those events.  The cumulative errors made will be explained in detail, so others will be made aware of the actions precipitating these events, and allowing those so inclined to take precautionary actions.  Additionally, a video addressing the effects of cold water immersion, should a boater fall overboard and the immediate impact to survivability, will be explained. Steve will display a variety of safety and survivability equipment.

  • Scott Miller: “Insights and Lessons from a Marine Surveyor” - Scott will discuss how to manage and maintain your boat based on ABYC, USCG and CFR standards that marine surveyors use to conduct Condition and Value surveys for Pre-Purchase, Insurance and Pre-sale surveys.  Regardless of whether you’re buying, selling or continuing boat ownership, it pays to keep your boat in top condition.  Scott will cover things that he has found on surveys which you wouldn’t believe unless you saw it, top contributors to lower values and the top 10 things to do to keep your boat at its best. Scott and his wife Teri cruised and lived full time aboard their Kadey Krogen 58 "Miller Time" for 6 years. Now Scott is a Marine Surveyor, SAMS and NAMS member.

  • Max Parker: “How to Use a Multimeter” - Max will discuss Electrical Systems on boats, how they work, and how to troubleshoot them utilizing a multimeter. We’ll show the functions of the multimeter and how to use it to “see” what the electricity is doing within the wires. This will be a framework for questions about your boat’s electrical system and troubleshooting tips to help you get to the root of the problem faster. Max is the Vice President Yard Operations at Zimmerman Marine.

  • Dave Trostle: “Current Trends in Marine Lending & Yacht Insurance” - Dave will discuss the current state of the yacht insurance market market, availability of coverages, carrier guidelines and trends on the horizon. He will also give an overview of the current lending environment and interest rate outlook. Dave is the senior underwriter at Sterling Acceptance Corporation.

  • Tucker West: “State of the Boating Industry” - Tucker is a man “At Home on Any Sea”. He spent most of his life with boats, on boats, and in the marine industry. He is a member in good standing with CPYB, IYBA, and YBAA and a licensed and bonded broker in Florida. Tucker previously served as VP of Sales at Kadey Krogen Yachts for seven years before becoming President/CEO of Krogen Yachts

  • Roland Falkenstein & Teri Gelberg: “The Triangle Loop: Thrills, Trials, & Tips” - Roland and Teri recently completed the Triangle Loop on their Kadey Krogen 44 “Magic Moments” and will discuss their adventures aboard. The Triangle Loop takes cruisers from the Hudson River at Waterford to Lake Ontario via the Erie and Oswego Canals, to the northern shore of Lake Ontario with a side trip to the thousand islands. Back to Kingston, Ontario where they took the beautiful Rideau canal to Ottawa. Down the Ottawa river to the St. Lawrence seaway to Montreal, then the river again to Sorel. From there, took the Richelieu River to the Chambly Canal to Lake Champlain and then continued on to the Champlain Canal back to the Hudson River at Troy. The trip took almost 3 months to complete from Baltimore. As Roland is an accomplished photographer, beautiful images are sure to be part of this presentation

  • Jeremy Buckley & Dave Kellerman: “Dockmate: A Better Boating Experience” - Piloting your yacht means maneuvering over 50,000 pounds through water—without brakes. Add limited visibility from the helm, and it’s easy to see why docking can lead to stress, arguments, and costly repairs. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Don’t let the helm hold you back. With Dockmate, you take control right in your hand, making docking smooth and stress-free. Enjoy your time on the water with confidence!

There will be opportunities for On-the-water Man Overboard Training with Mario Vittone, Dockmate demonstrations onboard a vessel, survey sessions on your vessel with Scott Miller and a personal Q&A session with one of the PredictWind developers, Luis Soltero
