Rendezvous 2021 Update
9/19/2021

Rendezvous 2021

As of Sunday, September 19th, we have closed registration for attending the physical event at Calvert Marina in Solomons, MD. If you are unable to attend in person, you will still be able to participate in the simultaneous Zoom event. That event is free to all Krogen owners. An email with login instructions will be sent out about a week prior to the event.

Should your plans change, and you find yourselves close to Solomons, MD, and wish to attend, we will hold a few slots open as long as we can. Please contact me directly at mvprivateer@gmail.com.

President, Krogen Cruisers

Please review the updated Covid Plan now on the website. Due to the effects of the Delta variant we have added additional measures. Vaccinations will now be required and all attendees are asked to test negative, either just prior to arrival or upon arrival. Free home test kits with quick results will be provided at Calvert.

Al and Arleen Mauger (Arion), our Calvert Chairs, have developed an exciting program for those attending in person. See their description of the events later in this letter. Meanwhile, the virtual portion of the program, chaired by Anthony and Annette Baker (Magnolia) and streamed to everyone via Zoom and the internet, will present exciting and informative content. The entire schedule of events is available for viewing on the KC website, as is the online registration form.

We are planning to extend the Zoom event timeline to include the live presentations from the morning speakers at Calvert. So if you can’t attend in person you will still be able to see and hear Nigel Calder and others. Invitations and links to the virtual Zoom event will be emailed to members of Krogen Cruisers and the Northwest Kadey Krogen Owners Group a week before the event.

Overall Schedule of Events: We will dock boats in Rendezvous style beginning Monday afternoon and complete docking by Wednesday at noon. We will launch the rendezvous with a Pizza Party and newbie meet and greet Wednesday afternoon (October 13th). On Thursday,  October 14th, we will open the rendezvous and hear from Nigel Calder and Mario Vittone. On Friday we have a full slate of presenters followed by an evening at Calvert Museum. Saturday includes presentations by Steve Zimmerman and Bob Arrington, as well as men’s and women’s roundtable discussions. Saturday night will be special, with a nautical themed costume party, dinner and dancing. We depart on Sunday as usual. Please see the draft full schedule on the KC website.

Meals: This year we will be serving dinner only so breakfast and lunch will be on your own. We will have coffee in the tent each morning. Dinner will be catered by Quality Street Kitchen and Catering and should be both healthy and tasty. Be sure and note if you request a vegetarian meal.

Boater First Aid/CPR: We will be offering Dr. Jim Brown’s First Aid/CPR class again this year. The class will be held on Wednesday so attendees will need to dock on Monday afternoon or Tuesday. Because you are going to be working indoors and in close quarters you will be required to be fully vaccinated for both Covid and the 2021 Flu virus. If you are interested in attending, check the box on the form and you will receive a separate registration in a follow-on email at an added cost. If you are interested in attending this class, please respond by August 15 so we have time to plan.

Cost of Attendance and Payment: Cost is $135 per person ( be sure and register for each attendee) for early registration and $150 after August 15th. Registration will close on September 19th. NOTE: REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. Payment will be via PayPal or by personal check mailed to:

Docking: Docking will be accommodated beginning Monday noon and ending Wednesday noon. Those signed up for the CPR class on Wednesday will need to dock on Monday or Tuesday. As you register, please identify which day you intend to arrive. Note that this year we will be assigning each boat a time slot for docking in order to sequence your arrival. Using this approach we hope to make it easier on our volunteer docking team and reduce delays for arriving boats. We will do our best to accommodate your desired arrival day, based on your boat type. As we get closer to rendezvous day we will be sending out detailed docking instructions to all of you with your arrival time slots. We thank Randy Pickelmann for his many years of service as our dockmaster and welcome Mike Metts as our dockmaster for this event.

Attending by car - Hotel discount: We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn, 13100 Dowell Road in Solomons, MD at the discounted group rate of $99 per night. To make your reservation you can call 410-326-0303 and use the group name “Krogen Cruisers Event” in order to receive the discount. The $99 a night rate is effective from October 12th through October 17th.

Volunteers Needed:

1.  Newbie Sponsors: We expect to see a number of folks attending for the first time. We will have a special orientation for them and then introductions at our first happy hour. Sponsors will work with the new members to make them feel welcome and show them the ropes

2.  Dockhands: we always need help docking the boats. If you are willing to help out, check this box and Mike Metts, our dockmaster, will contact you.

3.  Day hosts: Attendees coming by car are often left to fend for themselves during breaks in the action. We are asking for boat owners to volunteer to extend hospitality to folks without a boat. This means making them feel welcome to share your cockpit during breaks, feeding them lunch, etc. If you volunteer for this you will be assigned a couple who do not have a boat at the rendezvous.

Elections: Our biennial elections are this year. The Nominating Committee, led by Bob Brown our current VP, is formed and looking for candidates for office. If you are interested in putting your name in the hat, please contact Bob directly at mvlastmistake1@gmail.com. Positions to be filled include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Whichever Rendezvous you attend, be it in person at Calvert Marina or via the internet wherever you might be, we hope to see you there. Our team has planned an exciting program and it will be great to get together again after such a difficult year.   Please feel free to contact me or any member of the Rendezvous team should you have any questions.

Calvert Marina Event Details

Hi Krogen Cruisers,

This is Al and Arleen from Arion (KK42), your chairs for the physical rendezvous at Calvert Marina 2021. We are so looking forward to seeing members we have met at past rendezvous, as well as all you new boat owners and first time rendezvous attendees!

We have lots of educational as well as fun activities planned for this year. We certainly are due for some fun after the last two years of dealing with the pandemic! We have taken many precautions to keep all as safe as possible as you have read in Greg’ s letter and on the registration webpage.

For those who are new and as a reminder to past attendees, here are some explanations for what is on the schedule posted on the website:

TALENT EXPO: Share your handwork, crafts and art. Many cruisers knit, quilt, draw, paint, write, do woodworking, etc. Bring your latest or ongoing project to share and visit.

SWAP MEET:  Put any excess gear you’d like to give away or sell in the tent. Remember, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!!! Books and DVDs can be swapped too!

PET PARADE: A distinguished panel of judges will award prize(s). Come show off your pet with or without accessories for a good time.

SHIP OF FOOLS NAUTICAL COSTUME PARTY

Let’s have fun by dressing as anyone who had something to do with boats or the sea,

And/or any nautical item you would like to be!

The last rendezvous’ photo booth was such a blast,

so we will dance to oldies in our own costumes for memories that last.

Get those singing voices ready too

for there will be karaoke just for you!

Think of someone or something in history, a boating movie or any nautical item you would like to be! It can be as simple or complex as you want! Remember it can be from the beginning of time to the present, and any type of boat counts ( battleship, rowboat, cruise ship, gondola, Chinese junk, raft, ark, etc) Amazon is always a great starting point! Prizes for Best Dressed Couple, Most Authentic, and Most Creative will be awarded.

Now, with all the activities planned we need your help! We have all benefited so much from the Krogen Cruisers web page, forums and past rendezvous, so now is the time to give back by volunteering.

For those who have registered already and said you are willing to help, please take a look at the list. If something interests you, email us at aamauger@gmail.com and we will mark you down for the activity of your choice. If you have questions, we are glad to answer them before you commit. Those who have not registered yet, read over so you know where you want to help, and get registered, so you can get your first choice too!
